R.I.P. Poodie Locke

I am still in shock and I can't believe I am saying this but Poodie Locke passed away today (May 6, 2009) of a heart attack. His spirit will live on as a legend to the country music scene. Although he was almost always behind the stage everyone knew who he was. Poodie Locke became friends with Willie Nelson when he was 12 years old, he was Willie's stage manager for over 30 years. Poodie also owned the greatest little honky tonk ever called Poodies Hilltop in Spicewood Texas, I was lucky enough to get to work there when I was younger. You can't even imagine how many country music stars have seen the walls of Poodie's Hilltop. Many great musicians played there and got their start at Poodie's. By gosh if Poodie heard you play the guitar and sing and he liked you, he was dead set on going to make you famous, and he would succeed! He loved music and he loved people. He was truly one of a kind. Noone could tell stories like Poodie. I could sit there and listen to him talk all night long. He had one hell of a life! Poodie could make anyone smile even though you might hear the same joke 10 times he would still make you laugh everytime. Poodie was a good friend of mine and my husbands and we were blessed to have known him and we are so thankful for the many memories that we have with him. We send our love to his mother, Momma Locke, our good friend and Poodie's longtime girlfriend Shaye, Poodie's sister Cindy, Willie Nelson and all of Poodie's friends and fans. RIP Poodie! We love you and we will never ever forget you!

I hate to hear that, it is so depressing. Poodie was sooo great. I'll never forget the time that he let me meet the band members and got me tickets to a Willie show. I got to go on the bus and everything. Poodie was always so gracious. I also had a blast when we all went to the Hilltop and you and Wes cooked the Peanut Butter Pork Chops for the whole bar!!! I've got lots of great memories.....Thank You Poodie!
Love always- Deb (Wes' mom)

I hate to hear that too! Poodie was awesome and always so much fun to be around. I feel very lucky to have gotten the chance to meet him. Those memories will last a lifetime; I have a scar to prove it, lol. Remember when drank sooo much at the bar one night and when I helped a "more intoxicated that me" woman off of Poodies bus I ended up stumbling over her and busting my chin open on the concrete...ouch! Luckily It didn't hurt until the next day, haha. We spent the night on the bus in the bunks that night and I know that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity! I'll never forget it and I'll never forget Poodie! I'll miss you Poodie R.I.P.
Love Marisa (Wes' sister)
